  1. Van Halen - Eruption

    First song on shuffle today.

Two days in a row, a song that reminds me of my son’s younger days.

He used to play this on his guitar incessantly. Day in and day out, I’d hear this coming from his room and damn, he was good. He was about ten when he really, truly mastered this song (and I know I sound like a over exaggerating parent here, but ask anyone who ever heard him play).

Van Halen was one of those rare things that gave us a common bond to talk about (because ugh, teenage boys, they never want to talk). We were both - and still are, we talked about this just last week - pretty adamant about the David Lee Roth era of Van Halen being the ONLY true era of Van Halen. Neither of us will ever own any VH album that includes Sammy Hagar or that other guy we pretend never existed (Gary Cherone, for those who care, and why would you?).

How well did I raise my son? When he had to write a haiku for English homework back in 6th grade, this is what he wrote:

    David Lee Roth rocks
    Gary Cherone doesn’t count
    Sammy Hagar whines

Anyway, best VH album. No contest.
