  3. You can’t reblog answers so I had to do it like this. (from dontcookbilly) I am going strongly disagree with Don’t Cook Billy here. If you think there was no difference between 70s punk and new wave, you weren’t listening to more than one genre of punk. Maybe Blondie, Talking Heads, et al were kind of in the middle of the great Ven Diagram of punk and new wave, but bands like the Avengers, The Dickies, Sham 69, X, The Germs, The Clash, Black Flag - all bands that started out in the 70s - are nothing like new wave. I would write more on this, probably fourteen really long paragraphs with references, citations and music samples, but I’m on lunch and I don’t think Billy even follows me.  I just had to respond to it anyhow.
