  1. Fang - The Money Will Roll Right In

Any time someone posts a cover of this song (Nirvana, Mudhoney, Metallica) as Kevin just did, I have to post the original because I feel like no one knows there is an original.

I like this version best not just because it’s the first but because Sammytown does the best at conveying the theme of the tune. His voice is an almost apathetic, going-through-the-motions voice that once in a while lifts up into something like vague anger. Somehow it works. This tune has a great, rolling guitar riff, biting, cynical lyrics and talks about fucking Brooke Shields. You can’t go wrong.

This was, for about a whole year, the most played song on my last.fm chart.

Fang, “The Money Will Roll Right In”

And here we have #22 on the list of my favorite songs ever.

I was actually thinking of this on the way home today and meant to post it but got sidetracked, so it’s weird that it would show up on my dashboard tonight because it’s not exactly a well known song.

Fang was a great band. Sammytown’s voice is a bit hard to get used to; think Cookie Monster on ludes. But I kind of like it. It’s got a “I really don’t give a fuck” attitude about it. He sometimes sings like he’s going through the motions, just growling out some random lyrics and, while that doesn’t sound very appealing, it works here. It’s like slowed down punk rock, maybe what would happen if the Dead Kennedys took too much acid. Or if Jefferson Airplane smoked some crack. Psychedelic, trippy punk rock. How can you go wrong? Well, besides the whole murder rap thing.

On this particular song Sammy isn’t using the cookie monster voice heard later in on Landshark/Where the Wild Things Are, but an almost apathetic, going-through-the-motions voice that once in a while lifts up into something like vague anger. Somehow it works. This tune has a great, rolling guitar riff, biting, cynical lyrics and talks about fucking Brooke Shields. You can’t go wrong.

This song was #1 on my last.fm top tracks until I reset the thing earlier last year.
