Taking all my music stuff from True/Slant and Forbes and putting them on Sound System in between writing original stuff. This is from 2010, updated.
Melvins! Mudhoney! Flaming Lips! More!
Are the sales fueling the hype or did the hype fuel the sales?
I dissect the hoopla as sort of review of JT’s newest.
My first foray at Forbes into more business like reporting.
They’re not all going to be like this; I’m writing something on Justin Timberlake today that will be more fun, but I’ve got to do stuff like this, too.
Clicks appreciated.
It’s actually a pretty interesting story if you’re into the whole piracy and its impact on record sales thing.
I don’t think we will ever know the definitive answer to the question of piracy’s impact.
This is the first of my new style posts at Forbes, in which I try to do more reporting and talk about trends and whatnot. Please click and read and feel free to let me know how I did with this.
Is FM radio still a viable product? I discuss this with Fred Jacobs, a leading expert in the field.
On a side note, a little change in structure regarding my Forbes posts - they will be focusing more on the business end of music and new technology and social media trends in regards to music.
Hope you still click, read and enjoy.
Today at Forbes, I profile a great organization - Music & Memory - that uses donated iPods (and other music devices) to create personal playlists for dementia patients, using music as a way to reconnect them with their memories.
It’s a pretty awesome program and in the profile, the founder tells you how you can donate your old iPods (or Zunes or whatever) to Music & Memory.
Please spread the word and help this organization get even more donations to further their work. And please watch the video of Henry at the end of the post. It’s pretty amazing.
I wrote a little thing about the different shows and talks you can live stream, including Dave Grohl’s keynote speech today.
Livestreaming is the next best thing to being there though I think it might be better than being there because it’s 100% less sweaty, crowded and pretentious in my living room.
(they took down my vatican post [i get why they did] so please click this one so they can’t stay too mad at me!)
