Cake - Arco Arena
When the NBA season ends, the Arco name will be taken off the Kings’ arena. They’re looking for a new sponsor.
Remember when arenas and stadiums were named after cities and teams or had cool names like Candlestick Park? Before almost every sports venue was a giant ad for some mega corporation?
I remember being at a Mets game in the 80s and we were looking at some ad on the Jumbovision or whatever it was called back then and we joked that some day the 7th inning stretch would be sponsored by Budweiser. We laughed about it and made a few more jokes like “hahah and then they’ll say this conference at the mound sponsored by Gillette!” And then it was.
I understand sports is a business and the teams make money any way they can and while I don’t fault them for that it doesn’t mean I have to like it.
So I was thinking, the Kings could name the place “Remember When We Used To Be A Great Team Arena.” Or “That Lakers Game Was Fixed Arena.”
